2011 Fall FunFest

  • Multi-Grammy Award Winner Headlines Fall FunFest Musical Line-up

    (COOKEVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 5, 2011) -- It's going to be a soulful, bluesy Main Stage at Fall FunFest 2011, the biggest street party in Cookeville, both Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10, on the Putnam County Courthouse Square.

    Admission to the family-friendly event is free, and everyone is welcome.

    Grammy Award-winning Chris Thomas King of "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" fame is this year's headliner, and he'll be joined by seven other blues, rock, R & B and soul bands throughout the two-day event.

    The Fall FunFest Main Stage opens at 6 p.m., Friday, with rock and soul from the cover band Direct Hit, a group of musicians from the 129th Army Band out of Nashville. Next up is Inception, a band covering Motown sound and dance, at 8 p.m.

  • Fall FunFest Hosts Award-Winning BBQ, Festival Food

    (COOKEVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 30, 2011) -- Tennessee's championship barbecue will be at the Cookeville Cook Off during Fall FunFest 2011 -- we just won't know which one it is until Saturday when the judging is done.

    Now in its 16th year, Fall FunFest takes place from 5 to 10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, on the Putnam County Courthouse Square. Admission to the family-friendly event is free, and everyone is welcome.

    Thirty teams from Tennessee, Alabama and as far away as Oklahoma are competing this year in the Kansas City Barbecue Society event. There's $10,000 in prize money at stake in the contest, with the grand champion automatically entered in the KCBS National Invitation event. Last year's grand champion was the Algood Bar-B-Q Pit Crew, with Milt Collins as chief cook.
